Agreed, an FP'er replied to me the other day calling Brazilian import laws gay and didn't understand why I called him out. He thought I was mad because I understood that he was calling the country and everyone in it gay, and went in length to explain to me that gay is an acceptable equivalent to shitty in English.

Agreed. I've worked very hard to eliminate "gay" and "retarded" as pejoratives in my personal lexicon. Gay because I have three very close, very much life-long friends who are FODs, and retarded since a colleague/friend had a daughter with Downs a couple years ago. Things like this just don't seem to matter until you see them through the eyes of those to whom they most definitely do.
